Ok first of all relax. It’s not a test. This is gaming and it should be fun. This is you and five other gamers who will be tackling some fun puzzles, shooting your big guns and having a great time.

How will I find my fireteam?

Your raid will have a raid leader, usually referred to as a ‘sherpa’ by the Destiny raiding community. This is a person who has lots of experience in the raid, and will be doing most of the guiding and teaching in the encounters. They’ll be able to answer any questions you have and help you out if you get stuck. They’ll post something called a ‘Bungie ID’ in one of the Discord channels. It’ll look something like this

Guardian_Username#4323

If you enter that name in this section of the Roster menu, you’ll be able to add them as an in-game friend and join their fireteam. You can also type /join Guardian_Username#4323 into your in game chat, and join their team that way.

How do I communicate with my fireteam?

We use Discord for all our raid comms. We do this for a variety of reasons, but mostly because it’s clearer, easier to use and more reliable than in-game comms. When you log into Discord, you’ll see our voice chats right at the top. Just click that channel and you’ll join.

Once in Discord you’ll be able to select all kinds of voice options. Here’s some specific articles that can help with setting up Discord

Do I need any special equipment?

Not really. A headset helps to keep the audio focused and stops your background noise from bleeding into the chat, but even a headset isn’t essential.

It also helps if you have some kind of second screen. This can be a second monitor screen, or a different device entirely like a laptop or mobile phone screen. The reason this helps is that some raids have maps or callouts or symbols which we have helpful images for, and having this quickly available for reference really helps.

But I’m not very social

Hey, that’s ok! You can choose how much or how little you want to talk. We’re all super friendly, but it’s 100% up to you how much you talk. Some of us are real chatterboxes and some of us barely say a word other than raid callouts. You can choose your own adventure.

How long will it all take?

We’ve got incredibly skilled sherpas, and we’re keeping the maximum number of new raiders per group to 2, which should let us get it all done in under 2 hours. We expect to die a lot. Even experienced groups can die a lot. That’s just how it goes. Thankfully the light means we cannot die forever.

What will you expect me to do?

Again, this is mostly up to you, however if you’re new we’re going to try and teach you some mechanics and encounters so the next time you run the raid, you’re ready to jump in and do new jobs. If there’s anything you’re not comfortable doing, you don’t have to do it. That said, the expectation is that this is a teaching raid, so don’t worry about getting everything right first time.

Is there any way I can prepare?

We have some good advice both in the Discord itself, and also on this website. We also strongly recommend some content creators for their super informative and clear raid guides. Please keep in mind, some of the build guidance given may now be out-of-date due to Bungie sandbox changes, however all the mechanics and encounter info should still be correct.
